{"id":271,"date":"2010-06-10T14:16:06","date_gmt":"2010-06-10T21:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/susanstackpole.com\/?p=271"},"modified":"2010-11-20T07:48:59","modified_gmt":"2010-11-20T12:48:59","slug":"possibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susanstackpole.com\/?p=271","title":{"rendered":"Possibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/susanstackpole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/children-flying-kites.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-272\" title=\"children flying kites\" src=\"https:\/\/susanstackpole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/children-flying-kites.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aloha.<\/p>\n<p>Thank You for taking time to be with me here.\u00a0 I believe you found this article for a reason.\u00a0 My wish is that you feel cherished, loved and inspired.\u00a0 May you curl up in soft clothes, settle into a cozy chair, sip a delicious beverage, and allow your dreams to come out and play.<\/p>\n<p>Well\u2026 here goes\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The onset of summer brought with it a brief discussion with one of my youth mentees about why we both adore summer.\u00a0 Is it the sweet breeze gently wafting the billowy sheer curtains of an open window as one enters a coma-like state of sleep after a day of outdoor fun?\u00a0 Is it the beach, festivals, marshmallows roasts, parks, picnics, pools, and vacations?\u00a0 It\u2019s all that and more.\u00a0 Summer is possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Possibility is defined by Princeton Dictionary as \u201ca future prospect or potential, as in, \u2018this room has great possibilities\u2019, and also as \u201cthe capability of existing or happening or being true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What is possibility?\u00a0 Possibility is so many things.\u00a0 Possibility is the blank canvas fully submitting itself to an eager artist.\u00a0 Possibility is an empty parcel of land that becomes a glorious estate in the capable hands of a talented architect.\u00a0 Possibility is a holiday weekend with a full tank of gas and the open road wrought with raw adventure sprung to life by the driver\u2019s whimsy.<\/p>\n<p>Paper represents possibility.\u00a0 Years ago, it was the crisp virgin ivory sheet of paper inching along the scroll of a typewriter, excitedly awaiting the indentation of black letters sprawling across it like musical notes on a staff telling a story.<\/p>\n<p>The paper thoughtfully ponders its future, wondering, \u201cWill I be the next great novel?\u201d\u00a0 It smiles, considering, \u201cPerhaps I shall announce a baby\u2019s birth.\u201d\u00a0 Solemnly, it stands tall, puffing out its pristine chest, declaring, \u201cI will be a newspaper and share information with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ancient people chiseled on stone tablets.\u00a0 Ancestral laborers pounded out papyrus.\u00a0 Today, paper\u2019s mass production has become almost synonymous with it being taken for granted.\u00a0 Paper is now a glaring snowy rectangle on a square electronic screen waiting emotionless as the beckoning cursor flashing, imploring someone to write something meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>Possibility is woven into the fiber of every moment.\u00a0 It is found in every action, breath, feeling, heartbeat, sound, and thought.\u00a0 Possibility is choice, freedom, hope, the belief in miracles, and sometimes the only thing that keeps some people going.\u00a0 Possibility is the expanding belief in what can actually happen.\u00a0 Possibility is that instant when life changes in a flash in such as astonishing way that it fully engages all the senses and calls one to action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. &amp; Mrs. Smith, Congratulations, it\u2019s a boy!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. Watson, You\u2019ve been promoted to a new position in Paris.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. James, Your book is being published.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And so on.<\/p>\n<p>Possibility is about that bit of magic, that spark which ignites passion and brings new creation into existence.\u00a0\u00a0 Possibility is walking in faith, knowing that every situation has the potential to be a miracle.\u00a0 A dash of faith, a smidgen of trust, sprinkled with a generous helping of belief, and, voila, dreams become reality.<\/p>\n<p>Possibility has the heart of a child, the cleverness of a crafty schoolboy, and the savvy of royalty.\u00a0\u00a0 Possibility is activated by honoring the quiet voice inside.\u00a0 It sometimes is being deliciously self-indulgent, which, in turn, can and does change the world by inspiring others to honor the dreams in their heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEat, Pray, Love\u201d is the story of possibility.\u00a0 It\u2019s the story about a woman discovering herself and the secrets of happiness, serenity, and love, of course.\u00a0 Some may say her journey was incredibly selfish, yet that journey led to a best-selling book that inspired thousands of people and has become movie starring Julie Roberts, which will go on to inspire thousands more to live their best lives.\u00a0 It has created for her more possibilities and the opportunity do more of what she adores \u2026writing.<\/p>\n<p>You posse something rare and beautiful and unique to you &#8211; your heart, wherein exists possibility and the guidance to find your way in this world.\u00a0 Each of has what I call a Heartstar\u2122, a dream seed planted in our hearts before we were born.\u00a0 It holds the secret of who we are and why we\u2019re here.\u00a0 It\u2019s the origin of passion and keeper of dreams.\u00a0 People are passionate about all sorts of wonderful things &#8211; flying kites, racing cars, riding horses, making music, creating art, dancing, interior decorating, designing buildings, healing people, and the list goes on and on.\u00a0 Visionaries fuel possibility with passion and bring dreams to life.<\/p>\n<p>Is it selfish to pursue your dreams?\u00a0 I used to think so, and now I feel quite strongly that the opposite is true.\u00a0 It\u2019s selfish not to pursue your passion.\u00a0 It is self-absorbed to allow fear to prevent you from growing the dream seeds in your heart.\u00a0 How can I say this?\u00a0 Because it used to be me.<\/p>\n<p>What if Rosa Parks didn\u2019t get on the bus that day?\u00a0 What if Thomas Edison gave up?\u00a0 What if the Wright Brothers believed everyone who said they couldn\u2019t fly?\u00a0 What if The Beatles quit after a few disappointing gigs early in their career?\u00a0 Why do visionaries succeed?\u00a0 Possibility.\u00a0 Bill Gates and Richard Branson, two of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world, are motivated completely by their passion for transforming possibility into reality.<\/p>\n<p>What does it meant to live in possibility?\u00a0 It means believing.\u00a0 It means honoring that desire to learn a language simply for the fun of it.\u00a0 It means honors the urge write a novel simply for the delight of it.\u00a0 It means doing things that manifest joy in your heart and peace in your spirit.<\/p>\n<p>I used to think life had a specific set of rules, and I would be rewarded for following those rules.\u00a0 I\u2019m not talking about spiritual guidelines.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about mirage of the corporate job with shining benefits and happy retirement.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about the vision of the house with the white picket fence, a tire swing, and 2.5 children playing in the yard. I\u2019m talking about the things we tell ourselves we desire because they are supposed to bring us happiness.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the rules, get a gold star.\u00a0 Disobey the rules, get a red check.\u00a0 For a long time, I followed these imaginary rules and life seemed difficult and filled with disappointment and suffering.\u00a0 I was miserable, and it didn\u2019t make sense because I was doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing.\u00a0\u00a0 To clarify, when I say,\u201dmiserable\u201d, I don\u2019t mean just a twinge of sadness here and there.\u00a0 I mean it got to where I was enveloped by an inky Armageddon cloud to the point I no longer saw value in breathing.\u00a0 My heart was literally dying for me to listen.\u00a0 And I did.\u00a0 And I\u2019m glad I did because I began to understand what it means to truly live in possibility.<\/p>\n<p><em>Julie &amp; Julia<\/em> touched the deepest recesses of my heart.\u00a0 It is a delightfully transformational tale of living in possibility and illustrates what it really means to fully <em>live<\/em> by savor every morsel of life.\u00a0 It echoes the resiliency of the human spirit, stripping away everything and finally becoming ourselves by stepping into possibility.\u00a0 It is about doing what we love for sheer pleasure; setting our own course for adventure and allowing it take us where it will.\u00a0 It is getting up every single time we fall and learning lessons.\u00a0 It is destiny pulling us.\u00a0 It\u2019s awakening to who we are and have always been.\u00a0 <em>Julie &amp; Julia<\/em> teach us that by stepping into possibility, by taking time to be self-involved, by honoring that still voice inside us, which sometimes screams to be heard, we are able to be more, give more, and live the life intended for us.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re still with me, perhaps you\u2019ll relate to what I\u2019m about to share.\u00a0 I became a people pleaser early in life because I thought putting others first meant a complete disregard for self.\u00a0 I realized much later that each of us is responsible only for our own well-being, and if we all did that, we could give and receive much more fully and healthfully.\u00a0 Happiness is a choice not a condition.<\/p>\n<p>It was accepted and expected during that time that I was the 24\/7 emotional mini-mart.\u00a0 People would pull up, spiritually refuel and then disappear without a trace.\u00a0 I unknowingly participated because I thought that\u2019s what it meant to put others first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou must first fill your cup before you can share anything with others\u201d is something one of my most cherished gal pals says.\u00a0 I finally understood what that meant the day everything literally came to a halt.\u00a0 I\u2019ll spare the details; however, suffice it to say that I gave until I was completely empty.\u00a0 My heart physically boycotted.\u00a0 The store closed.\u00a0 The shelves were empty.\u00a0 The windows and doors were boarded up.\u00a0 The parking lot was vacant.\u00a0 \u2026and I felt completely on my own.\u00a0\u00a0 The people I most thought would be there for me were the first to turn their backs, or worse, kick me when I was down.\u00a0 It was a huge wake-up call for me in terms of how I was living my life and nothing was working anymore.<\/p>\n<p>The truth was, it hadn\u2019t been working for a long time, and I was busy running away to avoid dealing with it.\u00a0 I\u2019d been miserable for much longer than I would admit to anyone, and I was working diligently to help everyone else live their dreams because I was too scared and didn\u2019t know how to live mine.\u00a0 I\u2019m grateful because that experience transformed my life.\u00a0 It taught me about possibility and gave me a second chance to be the person I came to be in this life.<\/p>\n<p>I believe Love has a voice and that it\u2019s the voice inside our heart that knows who we really are and guides us to live our true purpose.\u00a0 Love is the voice that sometimes sounds crazy, which our brains attempt to rationalize.\u00a0 Love is the voice we sometimes pretend not to hear when it asks us to expand our comfort zone.\u00a0 Love is the voice that lets us know when we are \u201coff the path\u201d;
