Happy Lucille Ball Day!

Lucille Désirée Ball, born in Jamestown, New York, was an entertainment pioneer establishing for comedy and family entertainment new standards.  Lucille attended in New York City the John Murray Anderson School for the Dramatic Arts.  She began her career auditioning with the name, Diane Belmont, chosen from the New York Racetrack.  Lucille began her career acting in movies, which led to working at CBS Radio with Desi Arnaz, who later become her husband.  Carol Lombard reportedly appeared to Lucille in a dream encouraging her to move forward with I Love Lucy.

Lucille, out of thirteen nominations, won four Emmy Awards.  She was, in 1977, among the first recipients of the Women in Film Crystal Award.  Lucille received, in 1979, the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award and, in 1986, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center Honors and the Governors Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
